Hello Friend,

I don’t get the chance to write to you often, but I wanted to reach out about a special opportunity to maximize your impact. Today, your gift to the IRC will be matched by a generous donor to make 2X the difference for our clients. I know you care deeply about the work we do in crisis-affected areas around the world, and if you rush your donation now, your dollar will go twice as far for children and families in crisis.

In case you haven’t heard from me before, my name is Bob Kitchen. I lead the IRC’s response to emergencies, and I can tell you honestly that this year has been exceptionally challenging. Emergencies like political instability in Afghanistan, rampant child hunger in Yemen, and the worst drought in decades in Syria have forced millions of people out of their homes and pushed existing health and support systems to their breaking points.

In Afghanistan: Around 5.5 million people remain internally displaced. This kind of instability makes it difficult to find and hold down employment, disrupts children’s education, strains health care systems, and can even force families to make impossible decisions. In crises like this, women and girls are disproportionately impacted.

The IRC is supporting 62 local health clinics across Afghanistan. In recent weeks, nearly all of our clients at these clinics have been women bringing in malnourished children for treatment. Our staff members are doing everything they can, but the truth is, most clinics currently lack capacity to deliver the nutrition support people need.

Even more worrying is the impending winter. Winter in Afghanistan can be brutally cold — and without proper supplies, downright deadly. Some displaced families are living in parks and makeshift camps, and without coats, blankets, and fuel for heat, we fear they may not survive.

Your gift today can help fund our life-changing programs in Afghanistan and crisis zones around the world. Rush your Giving Tuesday donation to unlock the special 2X match and send 2X the aid to children and families in need:

Thanks to the generosity of supporters like you, the IRC is one of the few organizations that has been able to stay in Afghanistan throughout this crisis and continue to deliver urgently-needed humanitarian aid. Right now our staff members are on the ground helping displaced families secure the resources and winter supplies they need.

Our Afghanistan team — a team I was honored to lead as country director before taking on my current role — is working tirelessly to scale up our programs before the winter cold truly sets in. But the scale of the crisis is tremendous, and we need the support of each and every member of the IRC community to respond adequately.

Friend, families in crisis are counting on us. Rush your Giving Tuesday donation now to make 2X the impact for displaced families in Afghanistan and around the world »
