Friend -

Suddenly, everything was different. And dangerous.

The peaceful Syria I remembered from my childhood exploded in violence. My wife, two sons, and I knew we had to get out. And fast.

Friend, there are more than 70 million people fleeing conflict, disaster, and poverty right now - just as my family did.

They are people like you and me, seeking a life of dignity, freedom, and safety. But all too often they are met with hostility, suspicion, and intolerance.

We can't look away. Right now, you can help change lives - not just in Syria, but in more than 90 countries where people are working to overcome hunger and poverty.

Help families survive one of the most profound humanitarian crises we have ever seen - and address poverty and hunger around the world. Donate now >>

My family's journey to the United States was perilous, but we made it. Most are not so fortunate. That's why Oxfam's work - and your support - is absolutely critical at this moment.

As you read this, Oxfam is supporting on-the-ground work in the regions where refugees are fleeing from. One of those areas is the Northern Triangle in Central America, where violence and extreme inequality are forcing families from their homes - many of them ending up at our southern border.

We've been working in Central America for more than three decades to challenge poverty and inequality. We help those struggling with economic hardship, provide women with the skills to break out of domestic violence situations, and assist farmers in overcoming food insecurity. And when families are forced to make the difficult decision to leave their homes, we ease their journey with food, water, and hygiene kits.

Thanks to your support, friend, we're combatting poverty and other root causes of migration, to help families in Central America, Syria, and around the world, so no one has to leave their homes.

Sincerely,
Ali Al Jundi
