Dear John, As the year 2021 rapidly draws to a close, it’s a good time to look back as well as forward. Despite incredible odds, the working class and people won some crucial victories, most notably the historic electoral defeat of the former White House occupant and election of Democratic Congressional majorities. It includes the failure of the January 6th attempted coup d’état at the Capitol, the passage of the American Rescue Plan and Build Back Better Act, the wave of worker actions in #Striketober and #Strikesgiving, and growing union organizing campaigns at Amazon and many other workplaces. And, most recently, the conviction of three white men in Georgia for the murder of Ahmaud Arbery by a majority-white jury despite unsuccessful attempts to sway them with openly racist tropes by defense attorneys. Celebrate these people’s victories today—#GivingTuesday—by giving generously to the Communist Party USA to increase working-class victories and build the mass democratic movements to shift and organize mass public opinion and win new gains! At the same time, however, there are growing threats to democracy targeting hard-won gains of previous generations. In every instance, the GOP, white supremacists, and domestic terrorists are leading these efforts. They include voter suppression, gerrymandering, election subversion, the propagation of mass disinformation and conspiracy theories, and calls to murder elected officials. The Communist Party USA is familiar with these kinds of threats to democracy and our people. Over our 103-year-old existence, we have faced many organized efforts to destroy our Party and working-class and progressive movements. And the good news is not just that we’ve been instrumental in building the movement to beat back those efforts time and time again. The really good news is that we are growing. We are growing daily, hourly, and perhaps even by the minute as those made angry or uneasy by the consistently dangerous pronouncements of Donald Trump, Ted Cruz, Marjorie Taylor Green, and others. People are responding by joining the Party with our vision of an inclusive socialist future and a proven track record of winning tactics. Celebrate these people’s victories by giving generously to the Communist Party USA so we may increase our efforts to build the mass democratic movements and continue to help shift the country's politics and win new gains! A feature of this growth is a large number of young people who are 18- to 30-years-old. These young people are eager to be involved in coalition struggles of their communities and campuses, from mutual aid to defeating the fascist candidates to building the movement for Bill of Rights socialism. State and local CPUSA organizations have increased energy and vitality. The times we live in are full of danger and opportunity.
