Friend: Clean water is a human right. I believe it, and if you’re reading this email, I suspect you do too.
We have an incredible opportunity, right now, to make good on this belief — but it will take partnership from every person who supports our work defending drinkable, fishable, swimmable waters for all.
Friend, we have enormous work ahead of us in 2022 across six continents, where we’re using organizing, advocacy, and litigation to protect water supplies and ecosystems against polluting special interests.
Front of my mind, as I write this email, is our campaign to restore the Clean Water Act in the run-up to its 50th anniversary in 2022.
Nearly 50 years after its passage, half of our waters are impaired by pollution. Here’s what we’re doing about it — with your help:
We’re demanding that federal agencies clarify that the Clean Water Act applies to most waterways as Congress intended.
We’re pushing President Biden to restore state authority to block or condition federal permits due to water quality concerns.
We’re making the science-based case for updates that require more pollution controls for nonpoint source pollution such as toxic runoff from urban areas, pesticide applications, and energy production.
Nothing about this to-do list is easy — and it’s far from our only priority in 2022.
We will have to fight for every inch of progress; for every victory. And nothing Waterkeeper Alliance does happens without you, Friend. Nothing.
