Dear Friend,
Plastic pollution in our oceans and waterways is on course to triple by 2040.
Our planet is already flooded with plastic waste. And, according to a recent United Nations report, the problem is getting worse. By 2040, we could be adding up to 37 million metric tons of plastic pollution into our oceans each year.[1]
U.S. PIRG is working to correct the course. We're leveraging grassroots support, professional research and advocacy to move our country beyond plastic.
This Giving Tuesday, we've set a goal of raising $20,000 by midnight. Will you donate today to keep our work going strong?

All of our work to ensure a cleaner future requires resources, Friend. That's where you can help. Here are just a few of the ways we're working to move beyond plastic:
* We're telling Costco to get rid of wasteful plastic packaging. Costco was recently ranked among the worst supermarket chain stores for its failure to reduce single-use plastic packaging.[2] That's why we're calling on Costco to do better. By eliminating unnecessary plastic packaging, Costco will set a powerful example for others in the industry to follow.
* We're building support for the Break Free From Plastic Pollution Act. We're lobbying the U.S. Congress to pass the Break Free From Plastic Pollution Act, which would phase out certain single-use plastic products and hold the plastics industry responsible for its waste. Passing this legislation would be the single greatest step we can take toward moving the country away from plastic pollution.
* We're working to hold polluters responsible for the messes they make. The numbers speak for themselves: Thanks in part to PIRG and our supporters, 33% of Americans now live in a state with a robust ban on one or more types of single-use plastic, and two states have recently enacted laws to make plastics producers financially responsible for the waste their products become.
* And much, much more.
Make your gift today to help us meet our $20,000 goal and further all of our projects in support of a cleaner, healthier future.
