Dear John,
“A poor, poor Crocodile sat in a small pool with no room to move at all. I have never seen anything so cruel in my life.”
“I am particularly concerned about 2 lions and a cage with 3 primates, little space and no enrichment.”
“The monkeys have been fed everything from chocolate, energy drinks to chewing gum.”
“The barn owl has no box to shelter in, the Harris hawks have overgrown beaks and are flying at the mesh... A falcon recently died by breaking his neck after flying hard at the enclosure."
All of these reports above were sent to us by members of the public. Concerned for the safety and wellbeing of animals, people across the UK and beyond have reached out to us asking for help.
Shockingly, these are only a handful of the deeply worrying reports our campaign team has received in the last 12 months.
As one of the only charities dedicated to investigating places like zoos, aquariums and circuses, we receive a staggering number of reports from the public about animal suffering every year.
We investigate as many as we can, but we urgently need to increase our capacity to be able to deal with more. And to use our findings to campaign to END cruel captivity of animals, once and for all.
So that is why I am asking for your help today, to help me raise funds to support a dedicated Active Response Team. This team includes researchers and investigators who will deal with these reports quickly and efficiently to help animals. ([link removed])

As an investigator at Freedom for Animals, sadly I have seen animals kept in awful conditions. But I know that being able to do these investigations and bear witness to what is happening is absolutely vital in being able to help them and fight for their freedom.
When I see the number of reports coming in from the public, week in, week out of animals in dire situations, it can feel overwhelming. But I know that every action we can take to help individuals means the world to these animals. And crucially, if we fight for an end to the cruel industries that hold them captive against their will, we can save others from ever entering a place of suffering in the first place.
That is why I am reaching out to you today. To ask you to support our Active Response Team with a Christmas donation and to give more animals a life they deserve.
Yours for the animals,
Rachel Smith*
