Monday Nature Mystery

We are pleased to announce the winner of our Monday Nature Mystery, Geraldine ShannonPlease email us your snail mail address and preference for a hat or tote bag to: [email protected]

Congratulations to Geraldine for correctly identifying the nest and eggs of the Wild Turkey (Meleagris gallopavo). Did you know that if Benjamin Franklin had his way, the Wild Turkey would be our national emblem and not the Bald Eagle? There are actually five subspecies of turkey in North America: Eastern, Osceola, Merriam, Gould’s, and Rio Grande.

Here is an interesting article from National Audubon Society by Anne Readel about the Wild Turkeys in her suburban neighborhood.
