We need $3M just to get one ad running on TV.
John,
Our race could be one of the most expensive House races of 2022. That’s not just because this will be a competitive race or because conservative outside groups will pour money into Orange County. It’ll also be wildly expensive because things in this race just cost more than they do in other parts of the country. Here’s the deal:
- The L.A. media market is the second most expensive in the entire country. That means it costs us $3 million dollars just to get one ad up and running on TV. For comparison, this is 16x more expensive than what it costs to run a TV ad in my home state of Iowa—a fact that blew my mind when I first heard it.
- Orange County is a media desert. That means we have very few local papers. Traditionally, candidates depend on good local news coverage to get their message across to voters. But without much local coverage, we have to invest more heavily in other (expensive) methods of reaching voters—advertising online, on TV, and over the radio.
- In order to win, I’ll have to persuade swing voters. And that’s expensive. It’s said that it takes 12 mail pieces to persuade one voter. Here in historically red Orange County, we have thousands of voters we need to persuade, so that’s a lot of mail. And because of redistricting, I’ll need to reach many voters for the very first time—meaning even more mail needed!
That’s why I have to gear up early and why I’m asking for your support. So I have to ask, can you make a donation ahead of our November 30 deadline so that we have the resources to compete in this particularly expensive race?
