Friend, Giving Tuesday is one of the most important days of the year for the Southern Poverty Law Center. (That’s particularly true this year, as donations will be matched dollar-for-dollar – keep reading for details.) Thanks to an outpouring of generosity we receive on this day, we are able to deepen our impact all year round. Giving Tuesday is so much more than one day; it’s a cornerstone of our operating budget for the whole year. What’s in that operating budget? Funding for our Intelligence Project, which monitors the spread of hate 365 days a year and produces our annual census of active extremist groups in the United States. Money to support the breadth of our legal work across all our issue areas: Children’s Rights, Immigrant Justice, LGBTQ Rights, Economic Justice, Criminal Justice Reform and Voting Rights – in other words, any legal case in which the SPLC has a hand. Support for initiatives like our Vote Your Voice project, which has distributed millions of dollars in grants to grassroots organizations in the Deep South working to mobilize voters and encourage civic engagement. Resources that drive our Learning for Justice's free, high-quality antiracist educational resources to caregivers and educators across the country. Funding to support the continued operation and development of our Civil Rights Memorial Center in Montgomery, Alabama – which will reopen soon after undergoing an extensive renovation during the pandemic. And so much more. Simply put, Giving Tuesday is one of the best times of the year that you can demonstrate your support for these critical projects. And this year, you don’t need to wait for Giving Tuesday to double your impact. A special tax-deductible gift-matching offer is already in effect, and gifts received by the SPLC from now through Giving Tuesday will be matched dollar-for-dollar – doubling your impact on our work. Thanks to a generous group of supporters, gifts made from now through midnight on Giving Tuesday are eligible for a gift match up to $190,000.
