Friend –
This is a scary time for our civil liberties – and for democracy itself.
But, let's be clear about something: Today's wave of attacks – on everything from immigration to abortion access and voting rights – is direct backlash to the incredible progress we've made together.
Opponents of our fundamental freedoms realize they are running out of time and are lashing out with dangerous and unjust bills in state after state. And with the 2022 midterm elections looming, you can be certain these attacks will only increase.
That's why your support of the ACLU's Giving Tuesday – or rather, Giving 52uesday – campaign is so crucial. With your gift, you can help our teams in all 50 states, D.C., and Puerto Rico launch a defense of our civil liberties with the relentlessness and tenacity that is the hallmark of the ACLU.
Please, make your Giving 52uesday donation a day early and help us reach our goal of $1 million before midnight tomorrow – November 30. <[link removed]>
ACLU Supporter, nowhere is the destructive resistance to our nation's progress more clear than in the efforts to block people's right to vote. You and the ACLU have played a critical role in enabling voters to have their voices heard. And as a result, more Americans voted in the 2020 presidential election than in any other election in American history.
But rather than celebrate this expansion of our democracy, opponents of civil liberties have introduced over 400 anti-voter bills since then – not to mention blatant attempts at gerrymandering during the once-in-a-decade redistricting process.
The ACLU is fighting back, challenging voter suppression across the country:
* In Georgia, Texas, and Montana we're challenging new voter suppression laws that target communities of color and other historically disenfranchised people
* In Ohio, South Carolina, and Alabama we've filed lawsuits against unfair, undemocratic redistricting practices and gerrymandered maps and are preparing to litigate in other states very soon
* And in Pennsylvania, we're confronting Senate Republicans' attempts to obtain private information – including names, partial Social Security numbers, and driver's license numbers – about every registered voter in the state
We don't know exactly how the next threats to our democracy will take shape in the weeks and months ahead. But, with your support today, you can be sure that whatever we face, we'll be ready.
Please, make your Giving 52uesday gift today and help us reach $1 million before tomorrow ends. <[link removed]>
With your support now, we can stop the backlash and build on our progress to create an America that lives up to the promise of liberty and justice for all.
Thanks for everything you do,
