Three Steps to Being a Better World AIDS Day Advocate

  1. Learn: Learn about the U.S. theme for World AIDS Day, Ending the HIV Epidemic: Equitable Access, Everyone's Voice, and the newly updated National HIV/AIDS Strategy. Look at how LGBTQ+ and other communities are affected disproportionately in the U.S. Brush up on PFLAG’s policy positions, which include details about our board-approved policy statements on the FDA blood donation ban, inclusive sexuality education, HIV and STD prevention, and safe and welcoming schools. Finally, take a look at our recommendations for culturally competent healthcare for people who are LGBTQ+ or same-gender loving, including those who have HIV and AIDS.
  2. Watch: Watch our PFLAG Academy Online session about LGBTQ+ inclusive sexual education to stay mindful of safer sex practices. Additionally, register for an upcoming webinar hosted by HIV.gov to learn how the new Strategy can be used in communities to end the HIV epidemic, as well as how federal officials plan to use the Strategy within their own departments.
  3. Share: Post on social media to further educate and to share your support for World AIDS Day. You can also share HIV Basics and remind friends to know their status and get tested

Advocacy

There has never been a time when PFLAG has not strongly supported a person’s right to bodily autonomy, privacy, and healthcare that is safe, affordable, and accessible.

PFLAGers advocate for privacy in healthcare and personal relationships, the right to build families, access to reproductive health products like period products, condoms, IUDs, hormone therapies, and more, and for accurate and inclusive sexual health education. This fight has long extended to our antiracism work, as lack of access to safe and affirming healthcare disproportionately affects people of color, especially transgender people of color. The PFLAG National Board of Directors has unanimously affirmed a reproductive health policy

This Wednesday, December 1st, Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization goes to the Supreme Court. There are a variety of meaningful actions you can take:
