John, did you see our email from last week? I know you've probably been busy with the holidays, but there's two important actions we need you to take today.

This Wednesday, Dec. 1 at 10 a.m. (via Zoom), the DNR will hold a public hearing on an administrative rule focused on establishing drinking water standards for PFAS. This administrative rule is one of the best chances we have to protect Wisconsinites from these dangerous forever chemicals.

We need your help showing support of this rule by signing our petition, and even more important, registering to testify at the virtual hearing this Wednesday. Let's do our part in making sure that no Wisconsinites have to worry about this dangerous chemical in their drinking water.

-Peter

Take action!
Tell your elected representatives to protect our drinking water.

The DNR is in the final stages of passing three new administrative rules that will protect Wisconsinites from PFAS contamination and w e need your voice in support of this critical step to protecting our water.

The first rule is focused on drinking water, the second is focused on surface water, and the third is focused on groundwater. Each will have a separate public hearing with the opportunity to show our support and help get these protections across the finish line.

On Wednesday, Dec. 1, the DNR will hold a public hearing on the first administrative rule (DG-24-19). This rule is focused on establishing drinking water standards for certain PFAS, namely the chemicals PFOS and PFOA – two of the most widely-researched PFAS chemicals, and understood to be highly dangerous.

Will you help show support for this rule? There are two ways you can take action:

• Register to testify in support of this administrative rule. We will send you all relevant information and suggested talking points.

• Sign our petition in support of this rule, and two other PFAS-related administrative rules being developed by the Department of Natural Resources.

A little background: PFAS are a group of highly toxic, human-made chemicals resistant to heat, water, and oil. For decades, PFAS have been used for industrial applications and consumer products such as carpeting, waterproof clothing, upholstery, food packaging, firefighting foam, and various paper products.
Often referred to as “forever chemicals,” PFAS do not break down in the environment. The Wisconsin Department of Health Services has advised that exposure to certain PFAS like PFOS and PFOA may contribute to a number of negative health effects including increased cholesterol levels, increased risk of thyroid disease, high blood pressure in pregnant women, lower infant birth weights, and decreased fertility in women.

This administrative rule is one of the best chances we have to protect Wisconsinites from these dangerous forever chemicals.
