I was just sitting in history class on a day that seemed like any other.

But that seemingly normal day changed my life forever when a gunman with an assault weapon started shooting into our classroom.

My best friend Helena was shielding me when a bullet hit and killed her -- my world was shattered.

I was shot twice. One bullet ricocheted off my chest, and another grazed the right side of my torso.

I made it out alive, but almost a quarter of my class didn’t.

I knew right then and there my purpose was to honor Helena and my murdered classmates by preventing anyone else from having to watch their best friend die right in front of them.

I was devastated when I witnessed the brutal murder of 17 of my classmates and teachers. But I knew I couldn’t stand by and do nothing while countless kids continue to be slaughtered at their desks by gun violence -- just like Helena was. So, I’m working tirelessly to kick EVERY -- and I mean every -- NRA-funded lawmaker OUT of office, elect gun safety champions, and ban assault weapons once and for all. But I can’t do it alone. Ban Assault Weapons NOW needs 381 gifts before Giving Tuesday ends in 24 hours. Can I count on you to pitch in $15 before it’s too late? >>

I’m devastated.

My best friend Helena was only 17-years-old when she was murdered.

She greeted everyone she met with the warmest smile.

She had the kindest soul which she used to foster a dozen kittens.

She was a member of Model United Nations and represented England.

If she was still alive today, she would be in college working to achieve her dreams.

Hear me loud and clear: I need your help to ensure NO more kids die at the hands of an assault weapon -- by electing a slew of Democrats who will finally do something to protect us.

I know we can create a world where high school students don't have to live in fear of the next shooting and no one else has to watch their best friend die in front of them, but only if we do it together.
