In our divided culture today, speaking biblical truth and obvious biological facts can lead to a battle for your religious freedom.
Physical education teacher Tanner Cross of Loudoun County, Virginia found this out the hard way when he made national headlines by speaking common sense during a public comment period at a school board meeting this past spring. The school responded by placing him on administrative leave.
"I love my students," he said, explaining his refusal to use preferred pronouns with students. "But I will never lie to them regardless of the consequences. I'm a teacher, butI serve God first--and I will not affirm that a biological boy can be a girl and vice versa... It's against my religion, it's lying to a child, it's abuse to a child, and it's sinning against our God."
While the school investigated his "controversial" remarks, Cross got to work with FRC ally and public-interest legal firm Alliance Defending Freedom to mount a defense.
Just a few weeks ago, Cross shared his story at FRC's Pray Vote Stand Summit where thousands of conservatives gathered. "This is everywhere--this isn't just in education," he said. "I had a sense of urgency that I had... to speak truth to a world that needs to hear it."

Thankfully, a lower state court and the Virginia Supreme Court affirmed that Cross should be reinstated as a physical education teacher.
In this case, a wise teacher's conscience rights were upheld despite a vocal faction of activists seeking to force him to affirm gender ideology. However, similar battles are playing out across the U.S.
