Dear Friends,
Tomorrow is #GivingTuesday and as you consider supporting IDP and other organizations, we wanted to share a story of how your donations have helped immigrants and their families.
Mr. J’s* nightmare with ICE started nearly 6 years ago when a team of armed agents pounded on his apartment door in Manhattan yelling “police.” When he opened the door, ICE grabbed him and forced their way inside. The agents targeted Mr. J despite the fact that he is an HIV positive man with severe mental and physical health conditions who lives in a NYC supportive housing environment.
For ICE, inhumane and illegal tactics like this are all too common. But with an amazing team from the Morgan Lewis law firm, IDP and Mr. J fought to make sure that ICE paid for the harms they caused.

We won a remarkable damages settlement for Mr. J, but we didn’t stop there. We went on to convince a federal judge that ICE not only harmed Mr. J, but that their actions were “qualifying criminal activities” that violated his civil rights. That landmark acknowledgement now paves the way for Mr. J to apply for lawful immigration status reserved for survivors of abuse.
For #GivingTuesday, make a pledge to support IDP’s work to stand up for immigrants like Mr. J. ([link removed]) This giving season, your donations will be matched dollar-for-dollar by FJC, a family of philanthropic funds.
Thank you for standing with us in the fight for immigrants’ rights.
With gratitude,
The IDP Team
