Funding has been secured to make improvements to an unused open space (derelict allotments) off Ventnor Rise which is currently overgrown and a hotspot for fly tipping and litter.
These improvements will build on earlier works at Valley Road Park, continuing to improve the quality and biodiversity of the Daybrook area and creating a link for nature, birds and insects between Valley Road and Ventnor Rise via the Daybrook.
The project will also provide safe access to a green space on a site which currently doesn’t have public access and in an area where access to nature is limited.
Local residents concerns about the levels of water on the site and the impacts this has during periods of heavy rainfall should also be addressed by the works. It is hoped that works on site will start this winter.

Local Basford Children took part in a Music Camp during September which the Basford Councillors helped to support with a contribution from their ward budget.
The Nottingham Music Service charity to give children the opportunity to learn how to play music by ear, to read music, and they also learnt ensemble skills that helped them play as part of a whole orchestra or ‘monster band’ at the end of camp.
Activities included teaching in small instrument groups, larger sectionals, outdoor games and play that reinforced musical concepts through physical activities and a final performance to mark the end of camp.

The Basford Councillors continue to help raise awareness of the effects of car idling and its impact on local air pollution.
Idling is when a vehicle’s engine is left running while parked, stationary, or when waiting at junctions or traffic lights – which contributes to toxic air pollution which harm everyone, but especially small children - like Elle from Whitemoor Academy who drew the lovely poster above.
Many of us know that air pollution is bad for our health and the environment, and the need to take steps to minimise it. The best way to cut air pollution is to use your car as little as possible.
When you do drive, reduce the air pollution you're creating by turning off your engine when waiting at lights, crossings or parking or waiting in your car.
The Basford Councillors meet regularly with local partners including the police, Nottingham City Homes, CPOs the fire service and others to tackle local crime and anti-social behaviour concerns.

Nottingham City Council’s Trading Standards team are asking Nottingham residents to be careful when buying presents for children:
-
Look for the CE or UKCA mark: These symbols on the label or box mean the manufacturer has assessed the toy for safety
-
Button-batteries can kill: Check they are screwed in firmly and safely before giving to a child
-
Check age restrictions: Toys must be clearly marked with age restrictions - always follow them, they’re there for a reason

On scams generally - remember, if a deal looks too good to be true, it probably is. These include festive getaways at very low prices and ‘easy’ ways to make money, like cryptocurrency and investments. Take a moment to check Citizens Advice’s Online Scams Helper to protect yourself.
