Dear Friend, As you know, the SAFE Banking Act — a bill to allow the pot industry access to the U.S. financial system and billions of dollars in institutional investment from the likes of Big Tobacco, Big Alcohol, and Big Pharma — has been attached to a must-pass military spending bill known as the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) by members of the United States House of Representatives. Up until now, most bills that the SAFE Banking Act has been attached to in the House have not been passed into law, but the NDAA is a bill that has been signed into law each year for the last sixty years. The inclusion of the SAFE Banking Act in the Senate version of the NDAA could be decided this week. This is why it is vital you take action now to alert your representatives and senators to this shady action by the pot lobby and demand any such amendment be removed from this year's defense authorization bill. <<<Click here to send an urgent message to your representatives in Congress demanding the SAFE Banking Act be stripped from the NDAA>>> The SAFE Banking Act would leave banks out of compliance with federal law while opening the doors to Wall Street investment into the marijuana industry and put the pedal to the metal in the creation of the next Big Tobacco. All without any public health and safety guardrails. This is unacceptable. Please, take action now. While we are confident that a similar amendment will not be offered in the Senate, we still need to ensure that members of the Senate Committee on Armed Services are aware of the inclusion of this amendment in the House's version of the bill. You see, once the Senate passes its own version of the NDAA, a conference committee will be formed to iron out the differences in the two bills for its final adoption into law. Once you have sent your message to your senators, please take one more urgently needed action by calling some of the members of the Senate Committee on Armed Services at the numbers listed below. Tell them it is vital that marijuana banking be removed from the National Defense Authorization Act. Reed, Jack (D-RI) (202) 224-4642 Shaheen, Jeanne (D - NH) (202) 224-2841 Gillibrand, Kirsten E.
