Recent coverage of Haitians arriving at the U.S. border is only a snapshot of a years-long journey in search of safety and stability. Since 2010, food security in Haiti has deteriorated and more than half of Haiti's total population is chronically food insecure. As of August 2021, 22 percent of children are chronically malnourished—one of the highest levels in the world.

Reducing methane emissions from fossil-fuel operations is critical to helping the world meet its climate goals. While most policy discourse around methane reduction focuses on high-profile initiatives such as the European Union’s methane strategy, the European Union consumed just 12 percent of the world’s gas in 2020, while gas demand is growing fast in places like North America, the Middle East, and Mexico.

There is mounting pressure for free trade agreements (FTAs) to address issues from gender inequity to climate change and biodiversity by including non-trade provisions. Partly due to the establishment of the IFT in 2013, Mexico currently has the most advanced telecommunications regulation in Latin America, according to the International Telecommunications Union’s regulatory tracker. However, Mexico does not possess the cybersecurity infrastructure and practices necessary for a secure and robust ICT sector—in the first quarter of 2020, the country suffered an estimated 800 million attempted cyberattacks, making it the fourth-largest cybercrime target in the Western Hemisphere.
