But his troubles weren’t over: Hans had painful—and potentially life-threatening—bladder stones and needed surgery immediately. The humane society brought him in for surgery, and Hans thankfully made a smooth recovery. But because his issues may reoccur, his caregivers asked to place Hans with Farm Sanctuary.

Because of compassionate people like you, Hans is healthy, happy, and thriving at our New York shelter. Should his condition reoccur, we know what to look out for—and we can get him the care he needs right away. Seeing him running up to us for cuddles, pets, and scratches, it’s hard to believe that just a few months ago, he would have been headed to slaughter.
