TELL PRESIDENT BIDEN: MAKE AVI KWA AME OUR NEWEST NATIONAL MONUMENT

Located in the Mojave Desert in southern Nevada, Avi Kwa Ame, or Spirit Mountain, includes sacred Indigenous sites and incredible biodiversity. Without protections, it's vulnerable to development and degradation — which would destroy culturally significant lands and disrupt ecosystems across multiple states.

We're joining the call of a coalition led by Indigenous tribes, conservation groups, recreationists, and local advocates to ask President Biden to make Avi Kwa Ame a permanently protected National Monument. Will you speak out too?

GOAL: 10,000 Signatures: Take action to help make Avi Kwa Ame our next national monument. Send a message to the Biden administration now »

Friend,

Avi Kwa Ame, the Mojave name for "Spirit Mountain," in Nevada is a sacred site for Indigenous tribes, the home of desert tortoises, 900 year-old Joshua Trees, and a thriving place for recreation.

It must be protected for its rich natural and cultural heritage — but as it stands, it's vulnerable to development that could alter the area forever.

Indigenous tribes and conservation advocates in Nevada are organizing now to ask the Biden administration to grant Avi Kwa Ame permanent protections by designating it a National Monument. Can you join us in urging President Biden to safeguard this land?

Tell the Biden administration: Make Avi Kwa Ame our country's newest National Monument.

Early on in Biden's presidency, he set a pledge to protect 30% of U.S. lands and waters by 2030 — a goal scientists say we must meet to combat climate change.

If we're going to meet that goal, we need to begin expanding protections for more areas across the country, fast. Avi Kwa Ame is a perfect next step. If we act now to conserve this land, we'll preserve a site of Indigenous cultural heritage, the unique biodiversity of the Mojave desert, and recreation opportunities that bring jobs to local communities.

We know that when we demand permanent protection for our lands and waters, we can win. Earlier this year — after pressure from Indigenous groups and thousands and thousands of LCV members — the Biden administration restored protections to three national monuments, including Bears Ears, a land sacred to five tribes full of cultural and historic significance.

Last week, the Biden administration announced it is considering barring drilling on areas near Chaco Canyon in New Mexico — another campaign led by local Indigenous leaders, and backed by LCV members just like you.

Protecting Avi Kwa Ame is a real chance to do it again. When we speak out together, your voice is heard as part of a movement — and that's why we need 10,000 of you to sign our petition today. Together, we'll show the Biden administration that there's widespread public support for Avi Kwa Ame — but it starts with you taking action right now.

Take action now and ask the Biden administration to designate Avi Kwa Ame as a National Monument. GOAL: 10,000 signers today.

Thank you for joining this crucial campaign, and we'll keep you updated on the movement to protect Avi Kwa Ame.
