This past summer, there was no time to wait: Many Haitians suffered traumatic injuries that required surgery and many more lost access to the essential health services they urgently needed. Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) responded with additional medical teams, equipment, and other necessities to support those most in need.
Three months after the quake, our teams are providing care for ailments associated with a lack of sanitation and poor living conditions, including skin lesions, acute respiratory infections, and parasites. MSF teams also distributed essential items like jerrycans, water purification tablets, soap, blankets and mosquito nets to help families build shelters and reduce the health risks associated with unsanitary conditions. In light of all this, we can’t afford to turn away just because the news cycle has moved on.
The situation in Haiti shows us how emergency care requires support that goes beyond responding in the immediate aftermath of a natural or man-made disaster. Our teams are on the ground when emergencies happen and often stay there even after the headlines fade.
Every dollar you give before November 30 will be MATCHED to provide double the impact to our patients in more than 70 countries.
P.S. If your Giving Week gift and our email have crossed paths, we sincerely thank you for your generosity!
All gifts given, up to $307,000, will be doubled through 11:59 PM EST on 11/30. Every dollar you give will be matched with $1. Gifts received after the match has been met will not be matched, but will be used where needed most.
This email was sent from the U.S. section of Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF), an international independent medical humanitarian organization that delivers emergency aid to people affected by armed conflict, epidemics, natural and man-made disasters, and exclusion from health care.
