After 9/11, George W. Bush told us not to let the terrorists win...by going shopping. The terrorists “hated our freedoms,” and by “freedoms,” Bush meant buying trinkets and going to Disney World. So the best way to own the terrorists was to put more stuff on our credit cards.

Obviously, I disagree with that philosophy, but he did have one thing right: your money has power.
