John,

Today is Native American Heritage Day, a day to recognize and honor Native
Americans’ contributions to our country.

As the first Native American to serve as a U.S. Cabinet secretary, Deb
Haaland is already leading the U.S. Department of the Interior in a new
direction.

Under Haaland’s leadership, The U.S. Department of the Interior has pushed
forward with two commercial-scale, offshore wind energy projects, with
more on the way, after having no such projects planned just one year ago.

The Department of the Interior is also now living up to its commitment to
protect and improve access to indigenous sacred sites by collaborating
with indigenous communities to ensure the department is being a good
steward of their lands.

And now, just this week, Deb Haaland began pushing to remove offensive
names on federal land.

“Our nation’s lands and waters should be places to celebrate the
outdoors and our shared cultural heritage—not to perpetuate the legacies
of oppression.” - Deb Haaland

sure the Department of the Interior responsibly manages our nation's
public lands while honoring and upholding its treaties with the Indigenous
people from whom those lands were stolen?

The leadership of our country, from City Hall to the White House, needs to
reflect the life experience and strategic vision of our nation's
demographics.

It is clear that representation matters, especially within political and
movement organizations. Deb Haaland’s leadership as United States
Secretary of the Interior shows why.

Deb Haaland to show her we appreciate all of the hard work she is doing at
the Department of the Interior.

Thank you for all that you do,
