John,

Like many, Reproaction has spent a great deal of time over the last year revisiting our values and thinking through what we want to bring with us into the future. As always, we look to communities directly impacted to follow their leadership and guidance.

Which is why we say we have been rethinking Thanksgiving for a while. It’s no secret that many of us grew up with myths surrounding this holiday, myths that operate in service of white supremacy and colonization, at the expense of Indigenous people.

We are actively learning how to reframe Thanksgiving, taking time to sit with the harmful consequences of colonial seizure of Indigenous lands, how those consequences continue today, and what we as an organization committed to reproductive justice can do to acknowledge the harm that continues and encourage others to do the same. In particular, we would like to lift up the work of Crushing Colonialism and Indigenous Women Rising, and encourage you to check them out.

We hope you will join us in centering Indigenous people as you consider Thanksgiving this year.

Sincerely,

Erin, Shireen, Audrey, Caitlin, Elizabeth, Evonnia, Jessica, Kara, Nataley, Tenaja, and the Reproaction team
