Dear Friend,
This week parliament resumed. While I am deeply grateful to have been re-elected in Saanich-Gulf Islands, it is bitter-sweet to have lost my dear colleague Paul Manly, and to be seated far from my former colleague, now in the Liberal ranks.
I cannot claim 2021 was a good year.
But I know the work remains to be done. I am just back from COP26 in Glasgow where my new parliamentary seatmate, Mike Morrice, newly minted Green MP for Kitchener-Centre, worked with me every day to push for climate justice. Working with the Global Greens present at COP gave me a sense of the tremendous momentum of Greens around the world. Did you know that at local, state, federal and EU levels, 15,000 Greens serve in elected positions in Europe? Greens are now in government, with seats at the Cabinet table in ten nations – Scandinavia, Europe and New Zealand!
To address the climate emergency, protect nature, especially our old-growth forests, and act to meet the expectations for truth and reconciliation with indigenous peoples, we must rebuild the Green Party of Canada. And we will!
Soon our federal council will select a new interim leader. That will mark a key moment of turning the page. We need your help.
I would be so grateful for your donation within calendar 2021. We will need resources for our own Build Back Better campaign.
