It’s never been clearer: electing true allies and champions of reproductive health and rights really matters. From local officials on up to Congress, from statehouses to the White House, these are the people who have worked to expand access to care and stop abortion bans.

It’s easy to become cynical about politics, when so many lawmakers just don’t seem to see the struggles real people face. It’s even easier to focus on the worst of the worst, lawmakers who are downright hostile to our health and rights.
But the truth is, many people are driven to run for office by a sincere commitment to serve their community. And there are people of true courage and conviction serving in every state.
They deserve our thanks and support.
Far too many people are denied access to the health care they need, and very often that inequity of blocked access happens at the state and local level. That’s why Black pregnant people face greater risks and die from pregnancy-related causes at three times the rate of whites. These inequities have deep, systemic roots and long histories.
More and more, we see champions emerge from those very same communities to lead the way. They are fighting every day to undo that legacy of discrimination and make sure everyone can get the care they need.

Sometimes, holding the line to defend abortion access means taking a lonely, politically risky stand. Sometimes, progress in reproductive rights takes years and years of struggle and frustration to pass into law. Our ability to advance — and, increasingly, to hold on to the progress we’ve made — depends on electing champions of reproductive health and rights at every level.
Let’s show these champions that we appreciate their commitment, and we are standing with them as they continue to do this important work.
