John,
For more than a decade, the Luther V. Garrison Sr. (LVG) Masonic Foundation has remained committed to providing impactful services and assistance, free of charge to communities in need in NY-16. The LVG Scholarship program is designed to assist with students’ necessities, and instill the confidence to stay in school and thrive.
One of the most vital services the LVG Foundation provides is their scholarship program used to fund education related items such as books, fees, supplies, and more. Even with financial aid, many students experience economic difficulties and often consider dropping out of school — and a large portion of these student's concerns have been exacerbated by the pandemic, leaving many unable to earn the funds to supplement their college expenses.
As a progressive movement, one of our main goals is to continue uplifting progressive allies and mutual aid organizations who are putting in the work to support our communities. And for more than a decade, the LVG Foundation has remained a pillar in our community and in their efforts to support our youth.
From 2009 to 2019, the LVG Foundation has awarded more than 85 $1,000 scholarships to inner-city students. During this time, they have received more than 300 applications that they're eager to match. In 2019, they were able to award 15 $1,000 scholarships. Their goal for 2021 is to award 20 more scholarships to students in need.
In solidarity,
Team Bowman
