Supply chain delays are showing early signs of easing but aren't expected to return to normal operations until sometime next year, industry executives say. Backlogs at US ports are likely to improve early next year as the holiday season ends in the US and factories in Asia close for a week in February to celebrate Lunar New Year.

The ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach, Calif., will again delay fines on carriers whose cargo spends excessive time on the docks, noting that such volume has dropped by 33% since the fines were announced Oct. 25. Port officials say they will reevaluate the situation next week.
