Sadly, one of the only things people know about turkeys is their role as a centerpiece on a holiday table.
Each holiday season in the U.S., 68 million of these bright, social birds are slaughtered—usually within their first six months of life.
Yet, with the help of our Adopt a Turkey Project supporters, we’re able to tell a different story about turkeys. The truth is that turkeys are emotional and sentient beings who deserve compassion—and they’re treated that way, every day, at Farm Sanctuary.
Did you know:
-
Turkey's heads change colors, depending on what they’re doing—or their mood!
-
Mother turkeys practice collective childcare, watching all of their children as a group.
-
Their wild relatives habitually roam up to 60,000 acres.
-
Turkeys can recognize each other by their unique voices, and researchers have identified nearly 30 distinct vocalizations in wild turkeys!
At Sanctuary, these birds get the chance to be themselves: curious, playful, and affectionate. But to make sure people see this side of turkeys, we need your help. Will you “adopt” a turkey this year?
With a one-time donation of $35, you can symbolically adopt any of the five members of this year’s featured flock. You’ll help fund their individualized care, and strengthen our work to rescue farm animals and end their exploitation.
In return, you’ll receive a digital certificate with your new adopted friend’s photo and bio—and you can opt in for a print certificate delivered in the mail. You’ll also get a one-year subscription to Sanctuary, our print magazine.
Note: Digital certificates are sent overnight on the day of your donation. Adopt today to receive your personalized digital certificate by Thursday!
Meet the flock!
