Jamaal was propelled to run for office when he noticed that the deaths of
Black and brown teens in parts of his district never made the news. He
wanted to change that.
Yesterday, Jamaal joined New York Governor Kathy Hochul to announce the
next round of state funding to programs in NY-16 in order to address the
impact of gun violence, substance abuse, mental health, education, and
community violence.
As Jamaal said, there is not one individual mayor, legislature, educator,
council person, member of Congress, or governor that can solve this crisis
alone. It has to be all of us working in deep, committed collaboration on
a consistent basis to make sure we continue to put our communities first.
