Free Webinar: Sexuality Education in Texas Schools - Change is Possible!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The quality and content of comprehensive sex ed can vary greatly depending on the
state, district, school and even teacher. During this webinar, we'll explore how
three Texas communities - Austin, Odessa, and San Antonio - worked to challenge
the status quo and implement evidence-informed sexuality education programs in
their respective districts. Topics covered will include grassroots advocacy, working
with SHACs, and dealing with the vocal opposition in an effective manner. One hour
of continuing education will be offered for Social Work, Licensed Professional Counselor,
and Continuing Professional Education. Click here to register. [[link removed]]
Austin ISD School Board Passes Expansive Sex Ed Curriculum Following Hours of Testimony
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Congratulations to the many advocates who worked tirelessly to support Austin ISD's
new sexual health education curriculum. The Austin ISD board of trustees unanimously
approved the curriculum at a meeting last week that extended past midnight. Over
the last year, the Texas Campaign has provided public and written comment at school
board meetings in support of these positive changes. The new curriculum will be
abstinence-first, age appropriate, inclusive, and provide medically accurate information
on topics such as healthy relationships, online safety, contraception, STI prevention
and more. Click here [[link removed]]
