Updates from the Front Lines

For over four decades, Sea Shepherd has fought to protect every living being in our oceans, from the smallest fish to the largest mammal. While we have made great strides defending our oceans, there is still so much more work to be done.

Watch Captain Paul Watson’s ongoing commitment to defend, conserve, and protect our oceans in the latest film from Oscar-winning documentarian, Lesley Chilcott. WATSON is currently screening in Los Angeles and will make its New York and Animal Planet debut in November and December respectively.

Sea of Shadows, a film which follows the efforts to rescue the vaquita, will be premiering on NatGeo in the U.S. on November 9th, 2019. Sea of Shadows will also broadcast in other countries throughout November – please check your local listings as air dates and availability vary. View the trailer here <[link removed]>.
Also on November 9th, the Empire State Building <[link removed]> will be illuminated blue and white to mark Sea Shepherd’s commitment to marine conservation. Would you like the chance to be featured in a video celebrating this historic moment? If so, send us a brief video noting your location and our "For the Oceans" battle cry in your native language! Here is a sample: From Los Angeles. For The Oceans. Submit your video here <mailto:[email protected]?subject=For%20The%20Oceans%20Video>. Deadline to submit video is Monday, November 4th, 2019.

On November 23rd, Sea Shepherd is hosting an intimate fundraising affair, which includes a unique opportunity to meet Sea Shepherd Founder and Executive Director, Captain Paul Watson and Sea Shepherd’s stellar league of captains and household names from Whale Wars: Captain Alex Cornelissen, Captain Peter Hammarstedt, and Captain Locky Maclean. For Ending IUU Fishing

Through the Dutch Postcode Lottery, Sea Shepherd was awarded two million euros to help create Africa’s first shark sanctuary. This magnanimous contribution will enable Sea Shepherd and Sea Shepherd Legal to work with partners in Gabon to transform the region’s coastal waters into safe havens for sharks through robust enforcement and the creation of a strong, legal framework.

Mexico’s Federal Attorney for Environmental Protection and Sea Shepherd Conservation Society officially entered into a new agreement to support the protection of marine wildlife in Mexican waters, marking heightened collaboration between the marine conservation group and Mexico’s PROFEPA—the enforcement arm of SEMARNAT (Secretariat of Environment and Natural Resources). This includes the ongoing presence of PROFEPA inspectors along with Mexican Navy personnel onboard Sea Shepherd vessels to support enforcement actions within the vaquita refuge. Sea Shepherd has been present in the Upper Gulf of California, protecting the vaquita porpoise since 2015 as part of Operation Milagro. Read more about Operation Milagro here <[link removed]>.

The second leg of Operation Good Pirates in partnership with GlobalMedic <[link removed]> is in full swing. The crew of M/V John Paul DeJoria will deliver a solar power plant and essential supplies to Hurricane Dorian-affected areas. To date, Sea Shepherd has dispatched over 60,000 pounds of aid in the Abacos and outer Cays of the Bahamas as well as distributed medical aid, food kits, and water filtration systems. Sea Shepherd also helped rescue stranded pets and transported them to U.S. animal shelters. Catch up on Operation Good Pirates here <[link removed]>.
