John,

It has been a busy month in Congress, and we want to take a moment before the holiday to update you on Jared’s latest work advocating for Mainers in Washington. This is a long email (sorry in advance!), but we felt it was important to share with you as many details as possible. Thank you for reading!

FIGHTING AGAINST TAX BREAKS FOR MILLIONAIRES IN THE BUILD BACK BETTER ACT:
Click here to read Jared’s full statement [[link removed]] on his vote against the House draft of the Build Back Better Act and why he strongly believes that including a dramatic increase in the SALT deduction does not align with fighting for working and middle class Americans in Congress. The Build Back Better Act now goes to the Senate for consideration, before returning to the House for a final vote. Rep. Golden remains heavily engaged in negotiations about future drafts of this legislation, and he is working with his colleagues to find a path forward to target the SALT provisions to the working and middle class.

PASSING THE BIPARTISAN INFRASTRUCTURE BILL:
After months of working with his colleagues on both sides of the aisle, Jared was proud to vote in support of the bipartisan Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act. This is a clear win for Maine and our country and will put Americans to work building roads and bridges, expanding broadband to rural families, helping protect Maine kids from lead poisoning, and much more.

PASSING THE FAMILY VIOLENCE PREVENTION & SERVICES IMPROVEMENT ACT:
Jared was proud to vote in support of the bipartisan Family Violence Prevention & Services Improvement Act that, if enacted, would provide grants to support domestic violence prevention and programs providing shelter and care to survivors.

REDUCING HEATING OIL AND GAS PRICES:
Prices for heating oil and gas are rapidly increasing, which could mean steep heating bills for Mainers as they brace for a cold winter. That’s why Jared led a bipartisan group of New England lawmakers to call on President Biden to tap into federal heating oil and gas reserves and limit natural gas exports to drive down prices. Following this effort, this week the White House announced that the Department of Energy will make available 50 million barrels of oil from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve to offset climbing prices.

GETTING FOREIGN MONEY OUT OF OUR ELECTIONS:
As it stands, federal law bans foreign nationals from financing our elections -- but it does not specifically address ballot initiatives. This month, Jared introduced legislation to close this loophole and make it so that American elections, from the presidency to ballot questions, are decided by the people, not foreign citizens or corporations.

We know that none of this would have been possible without your continued support. Thank you for being on our team.

Sincerely,
Team Golden
