John – one of my favorite things about being from Nevada is our state's incredible natural landscapes. From horseback riding to hiking to rock climbing, I try to get outside as often as possible.

My race to defend Nevada's Senate seat really isn't so different from rock climbing. Every step has to be carefully planned. Small details matter. And mistakes can be costly.

Defending Nevada's critical seat and our Senate majority is going to be a long, challenging climb – and we have some big obstacles to overcome. Recent polling shows me trailing my Trump-endorsed opponent by 2 points, GOP outside groups have spent more than $2 million against me and our race was just downgraded to a toss-up.

Now there are challenging parts to any climb: moments when you seem to lose your footing and need to reassess. But you also don't go into a climb without being prepared for the difficult moments – or without a solid team. 

You've been a vital part of my team, John. So I'm going to be honest: Missing tonight's fundraising goal is going to make our pathway to the top that much harder. It's the kind of mistake that could put us just behind on Election Day and cost us Nevada and the Senate. I'm about to fall short of my goal, which is why I'm reaching out to you today.
