Surrey Heath News

Remembrance Day: I was honoured to lay a wreath at both the Ash and Camberley Remembrance day services, and to plant a Remembrance cross in Parliament's Constituency Garden of Remembrance. These are solemn occasions, and it was heartening to see the vast number of people coming out to commemorate those who have fallen in service for our country.

Ash Ranges update: Following my meeting with MoD Minister Jeremy Quin at Ash Ranges on 7 October – in which myself, Cllr Paul Deach and Cllr Nigel Manning pressed for a lifting of restrictions to access for local residents – he has since responded and you can read his letter here.

Councillor catch-up: I was delighted to hold another invaluable meeting with local Parish, Borough and County Conservative Councillors in Windlesham earlier this month. We discussed all things Surrey Heath, and I would like to thank all those who attended and am grateful for their updates concerning their wards.

Arriva Bus Service: Following Arriva's announcement that it would be closing its bus depot in Guildford, Surrey County Council has been working hard to secure replacement services. I am pleased that there has since been an update, and you can read about the forthcoming timetable changes and how they affect services in Surrey Heath here.

Fernways visit: I loved meeting the team at Fernways School and the Kedleston Group in Windlesham at the start of November, and I was delighted to have been able to visit during UK Parliament Week. The school offers brilliant support for children with autism and associated learning needs, and I was honoured to be asked to unveil their new library. You can read more about my visit here

Heatherside Arcade clear-up: I had great fun helping to clear up the leaves and overgrown foliage at the arcade on 13 November. My thanks go to County Councillor Edward Hawkins for organising such an important event, and you can find more about the fantastic team effort here.

Surrey County Council care home consultation: SCC is running a consultation to seek people’s views on the future of eight residential care homes for older people which the Council owns and operates, including Abbeywood in Ash Vale. I know that many constituents will have family and friends staying in these homes, and would encourage anyone who is interested to contribute before the closing date on 5 January 2022.

Surrey COP26 Virtual Summit: I was hugely honoured to have been chosen to be speak at this Summit alongside a number of distinguished local voices, and I was so grateful to Claire Coutinho MP for organising such a thoroughly thought-provoking evening. You can watch the Summit here.
