![]() Yes, 2021 was a rough year for everyone involved in their communities. You, as members of Livable California, from north to south, from the coast to the desert, eloquently explained your perspectives at our twice-monthly Saturday zoom meetings.
We’ve all met terrific people from across California. Many of us feel we know each other, and we do. While most of us have never met, we’ve found kinship in every kind of community.
We all tend to feel that local knowledge, not state edicts, is best for creating thriving communities and affordable housing as climate change sets off firestorms of unbelievable destruction and people flee cities in the tragic wake of COVID-19.
This year, Livable California dramatically upped the transparency in Sacramento by educating tens of thousands of people about complex bills that undermine renters and homeowners from the Inland Empire’s flatlands to South Los Angeles, and from the Sierra Nevada foothills to the East Bay.
We strongly oppose the dominant approach in dozens of bills signed into law since 2017, which only rarely put serious money into truly affordable housing.
We have seen Sacramento’s stripping away at public hearings, developer responsibilities and community aspirations, but that is not the answer.
We applaud the dwindling number of bills that reject “trickle down” economics.
We’ll send out a blast about next Saturday’s post-Turkey Day teleconference soon. But now we ask that you donate to Livable California.
We need your donations, small or large, to prepare for what we expect will be an aggressive year of housing and land-use bills far more helpful to investors than to Californians.
Please join us. And please donate today if you possibly can. We have so enjoyed getting to know you, and we thank you very much!
Livable California is a non-profit statewide group of community leaders, activists and local elected officials. We believe in local answers to the housing affordability crisis. Our robust fight requires trips to Sacramento & a lobbyist going toe-to-toe with power. Please donate generously to LivableCalifornia.org here. Advocate for the empowerment of local governments to foster equitable, self-determined communities offering a path for all to a more livable California.
