John,
Last week, a jury in Kenosha, Wisconsin failed to convict Kyle Rittenhouse in his murder trial. Rittenhouse killed two people and injured another with an AR-15 at a Black Lives Matter protest last summer after Jacob Blake was shot by police.
His acquittal is an example of how our criminal legal system can be unjust and racist. It serves as a reminder of the dangers of the so-called Stand Your Ground and self-defense laws in states across the country that encourage shootings, deadly force, and violent extremism when such violence could have been avoided.
So, today, we’re asking that you join us in donating to Black Leaders Organizing for Communities (BLOC) Action — an organization that works to ensure a high quality of life and access to opportunities for members of the Black community in Milwaukee and throughout Wisconsin.
BLOC is focused on ushering in an era of equity by championing issues that disproportionately affect communities of color like housing, health care, and gun violence. They are working every day to create a Milwaukee, and Wisconsin, where Black and Brown families have an equal opportunity to thrive.
Together, we can uplift BIPOC communities in Wisconsin and across the country.
In solidarity,
Justice Democrats
