John, I know what it takes to beat a tough opponent. Last year, my campaign and I ousted a 30-year Republican incumbent in Orange County, a place long considered a GOP stronghold.

I couldn't have done it without the support of the grassroots behind me. It's that kind of support that our party's future presidential nominee -- as well as Democratic candidates across the country -- will need to beat Donald Trump and his allies in 2020.

They've built a massive fundraising machine, and if Democrats want to have any chance of winning back the White House, flipping the Senate, expanding our House majority, and electing Democrats to state and local offices nationwide, we absolutely must be able to keep pace.

That's why tonight's fundraising deadline is so important, John. We must hit our fundraising targets in order to carry out our party's 2020 strategy and build a strong campaign apparatus.

If we fall short of our goals, our path to victory next year instantly becomes more difficult -- and that's not a scenario that Democrats can afford.
