We had quite an eventful week last week, between our Capitol Hill Rally and Annual Awards Gala.
Hi Friend,
What a week we had!

On Tuesday, our new membership program, Independent Women’s Network, organized a parents’ rights rally on Capitol Hill to send a clear message that we’ve had enough with government overreach. The government is NOT a co-parent.

As Congresswoman Virginia Foxx said, “Parental rights are non-negotiable.” Here is a replay ([link removed]) of the rally.

At the “Government Is Not A Co-Parent” rally, we heard from dozens of concerned parents, civic advocates, and several members of Congress, including Representatives Virginia Foxx (R-NC), Diana Harshbarger (R-TN), Claudia Tenney (R-NY), Vicky Hartzler (R-MO), Jim Banks (R-IN), Chip Roy (R-TX), Carol Miller (R-WV), and remarks by Senator Marsha Blackburn (R-TN).

As Sen. Marsha Blackburn said, the special interest activists, mainstream media, and bureaucrats tried to “transform American classrooms into a stump for political posturing. Their goal was to distract you, to drown out dissent, and to scare you into submission. Well, I’m happy to see their plan failed!”

On Wednesday, we held our Annual Awards Gala to recognize the work of Senator Tim Scott (R-SC), Fox News’ senior meteorologist Janice Dean, and journalist and parent activist Asra Nomani.

As Sen. Tim Scott said of the important role of women in his life:

“This happened because I have a great mama. And my mom today is still my American hero, and I will say that without any question she taught me some really important things. Number one, she taught me that never ever can you surrender. You never give up…. (and) If you shoot for the moon, even if you miss, you will be among the stars.”

It was a lovely celebration of the work these individuals have done to better our communities and country. In addition to our awardees, IWN’s first Chapter Leaders—Georganne Burke and Julie Berkowitz—were recognized for their efforts to launch chapters in their communities
