There is growing demand for information around the role of technology in politics – from both technologists and practitioners. Higher Ground Labs is committed to building space for those conversations so we can build a stronger path to 2020 and beyond. By bringing NewFounders under the HGL umbrella, we will deepen our experience and expand our reach to build a more effective coalition of builders and organizers. Where am I going? I will continue as a thought leader and donor with Higher Ground labs, but I am doubling down on my focus on getting women and diverse candidates into office. I have spent 2.5 years of my own getting to know you, the market, and the needs, and I think this is the area where I can make the biggest seismic changes. I will continue to work on RUN the Series and the candidate-focused #Techyourself Guide, both sparked by the NewFounders conference. My focus will narrow into training candidates on critical tech frameworks to win races, especially races at the school board and local levels. As you all know, candidates at the county and school board level lack the resources of candidate running at higher levels…. we are leveling the playing field via the 200-page guide we’ve created and the one-pager resource sheets. This fall, you will see a series of online TechYourself classes roll out as well. So keep an eye out for upcoming news and future events from Higher Ground Labs that will keep the dialogue going around innovation and how we can all join forces to move this ecosystem forward into 2020.
