Connecticut Republican Party Chair Ben Proto
remembers Julie Belaga
"One of my earliest involvements with the Connecticut Republican Party was in 1986, when, as a newly married, newly admitted attorney, and newly located to Stratford, I knocked on doors for Julie Belaga. I had the opportunity to meet her during that campaign, and she impressed me with her knowledge and understanding of our state government, but more so with her compassion and passion for our state and people of Connecticut. There are few politicians who could match her in character and drive.
"She was an outstanding example, not only for Connecticut Republicans, but for politicos of all political affiliations and philosophical beliefs. She believed in good government, she believed that she represented every single person, not just those of similar political philosophy or affiliation. The one thing you would never call Julie Belaga was a politician. Leader, consensus builder, strong, determined, compassionate and passionate, are just a few words to describe Julie. When she believed in something she never let anyone stand in the way of her mission, but would always respectfully solicit others’ input and ideas. She built consensus inside and outside the party and Connecticut Republicans, and more importantly, Connecticut, are stronger for having her example to watch and learn from.
"I am so thankful I had the opportunity to know and work with Julie Belaga, and my thoughts and prayers go out to her loved ones during this difficult time."
