BIG NEWS! Today, we're endorsing 4 House candidates who will help Democrats keep control of Congress and advance, not obstruct, a bold Democratic agenda: Summer Lee in Pennsylvania’s 18th District, Attica Scott in Kentucky’s 3rd District, Tom Winter in Montana’s newly drawn 1st District, and Jessica Cisneros in Texas’ 28th District. (Donate to their campaigns here.)
These endorsements come just days after the House of Representatives passed the Democratic Build Back Better agenda, sending it to the Senate after months of delay caused by a handful of corporate-aligned holdout Democrats.
Three of today's endorsements are women of color. All 4 have strong records of organizing in their communities. Together, they give Democrats a fighting chance of holding onto our House majority.
A handful of corporate-aligned holdout Democrats previously blocked the widely popular Build Back Better legislation, which expands child care, ushers in universal pre-k, combats climate change, lowers the cost of prescription drugs and health care, and extends the child tax credit — paid for by taxing corporations and ultra-wealthy individuals who have avoided taxation.
During the delay, Democrats lost the governorship in Virginia and significantly underperformed in New Jersey. This was an important reminder that it’s not enough to run against Trump -- Democrats must use power to improve the lives of working families.
Building back better shouldn’t have been this hard. We need elected officials who will fight for everyday Americans, not obstruct popular legislation on behalf of corporate interests. That’s why we are so proud to endorse this diverse slate of progressive change makers:
Summer Lee (PA-18) is a Pennsylvania state legislator and dedicated organizer, activist, and advocate for social justice. Since taking office, Summer has been a voice for people across the district – championing initiatives that support sustainable jobs, environmental responsibility, police accountability, and gender and racial equity. She is a tireless advocate for workers’ rights, union protections, and the fight for a liveable wage. Donate $3 to Summer's campaign.
Attica Scott (KY-03) is a State Representative and was the first Black woman elected to the Kentucky General Assembly in more than two decades. In her time in the assembly, she brought 80 bills to the floor, including legislation banning no-knock warrants and banning discrimination against students who wear natural hairstyles to school. Scott is running to replace the retiring Rep. John Yarmuth and will fight for racial justice, Medicare For All, a Green New Deal, the John Lewis Voting Rights Act, and more. Donate $3 to Attica's campaign.
Tom Winter (MT-01) served in the Montana State House, is a current member of IBEW 206, and has been organizing in the Western Montana community for the last decade. Winter proved that Democrats can win in a +11 Trump district by organizing in their community and rooting a campaign in popular policies that empower and excite working families, and is a climate champion who supports a Green New Deal, an outspoken advocate for voting rights, and has a plan to tackle the opioid crisis by taking on Big Pharma in Washington. Donate $3 to Tom's campaign.
Jessica Cisneros (TX-28) is a human rights lawyer and proud daughter of Mexican immigrants who is running against Rep. Henry Cuellar, one of the nine House Democrats that fought for corporate interests and watered down Build Back Better. Cisneros will fight to pass progressive ideas and is a fierce advocate for Medicare For All, a Green New Deal, and fixing our broken immigration system. In 2020, she came within 4 points of unseating Cuellar. Donate $3 to Jessica's campaign.
Thanks for being a bold progressive.
