Dear John, AXA, the second-largest insurer in the world, invests $91 million in companies which enable (and profit from) Israeli apartheid against Palestinians. This includes weapons manufacturer, Elbit Systems, the top weapons supplier to the Israeli military, which produces surveillance technology used to surveil and restrict the freedoms of Palestinians in the West Bank and to commit war crimes like targeting of protesters and journalists in Gaza. Elbit Systems also manufactures cluster bombs which directly violate the UN Convention on Cluster Munitions. Because France (where AXA is based) is a state party to the Convention, AXA could be prosecuted under French law for investing in Elbit Systems. Earlier this year, when AXA was made aware of this by activist groups, it responded by continuing to invest in Elbit through its US-based subsidiary, where it is less likely to face consequences. That’s why we’re joining a coalition of Palestine solidarity groups around the world in calling on AXA to divest from apartheid, for the sake of international law and the Palestinian people. Sign our petition now, telling AXA it’s time to divest! In addition to hiding its investments in Elbit Systems, AXA also has invested over $90 million in Israeli banks which help fund (and profit from) infrastructure and housing projects for illegal Israeli settlements on occupied Palestinian land. It’s important to boycott these illegal settlements. Not only has the international call for BDS by Palestinians on the ground requested this of us, but a recent statement by independent UN Human Rights expert, Michael Lynk, claims that “the international community has a responsibility and a legal obligation” to boycott the settlements. By funding these banks, AXA is using funds from customers all around the world to finance prolonged and illegal Israeli occupation. Tell AXA to stop insuring apartheid! AXA’s mission statement claims they are “committed to maintaining the highest standards of integrity.” How can a company have integrity when it profits off of human rights abuses? How can a company claim to insure and protect its clients lives and wellbeing while taking their money to fund apartheid? Sign our petition to remind AXA that you can’t insure life while investing in death! In Solidarity with the People of Palestine, |
