WPRI: No takers so far after Magaziner suggests Dems sign a 'People's Pledge'

"Democratic gubernatorial candidate Seth Magaziner on Wednesday suggested he and his rivals should adopt a "People's Pledge" to keep outside money out of their primary race, but so far none of his opponents have backed the idea."

Team,

Last week, I called on my opponents in the Democratic primary to sign a People's Pledge to keep dark money out of Rhode Island.

Since the disastrous Citizens United decision in 2010, dark money groups have been able to spend unlimited amounts of money to influence our elections. Unlimited dark money and misinformation threatens our democracy, and as candidates, we have the power to do something about it.

A People's Pledge is an idea that started in the United States Senate race between Elizabeth Warren and Scott Brown and was effective in keeping dark money out of that race. The way it works is that all the candidates in a race agree that if an outside group spends money that benefits them or attacks their opponent, that candidate will donate the same amount of money to charity. The People's Pledge has worked in other races too, including here in RI in the 2014 race for Governor.

If we're going to move Rhode Island forward, we need our public officials to prove they're ready to get to work for Rhode Islanders and no one else.

That's why I'm asking all of my opponents to sign a People's Pledge to stand against Citizens United and unlimited outside spending, not just with words but with actions.

Add your name to join me in calling on all of the candidates in Rhode Island's race for Governor to commit to the People's Pledge to keep dark money
