Big Pharma is running an insulin cartel, and Joe Biden’s got a plan to break it up.
Seriously―Americans pay eight times as much for insulin as Canadians do. There’s no reason for that―it’s the same medicine, made in the same facilities. A few companies control the entire market for insulin, and they take turns ratcheting up the price, knowing that if people don’t pay it, they will literally die.

The Build Back Better Act not only uses Medicare’s bargaining power to negotiate lower prescription drug prices, but it puts a monthly cap of $35 on insulin prices―a change that will save many diabetics hundreds of dollars per month.
The inventors of insulin sold the patent for just $1 nearly 100 years ago, to ensure that no one would be excluded from their invention. But over time, Big Pharma snapped up the patents and raised the price… slowly at first, then much more quickly. The price of insulin in the United States has increased by more than 1,400% over the past 25 years, even as the cost to manufacture it has remained the same. No wonder Big Pharma lobbyists are putting so much pressure on Senators to drop this provision.
