Last week we launched our first ever Community Artist Series. Read on to hear more about the third artist we are spotlighting…

Dear John,

Last Monday we launched the NIAC Community Artist Series. We will continue to spotlight two artists per week to showcase our appreciation for the singers, dancers, and musicians that are celebrating what it means to be Iranian-American through art.

Today, we’re excited to introduce you to our third artist spotlight: Wanees Zarour!

Wanees is a Palestinian-American composer, arranger, multi-instrumentalist, Director of the Middle East Music Ensemble at the University of Chicago (MEME), Co-Director of the Chicago Immigrant Orchestra, and leader of The East Loop. Wanees has led and grown the Middle East Music Ensemble (MEME) for the past 11 years. His approach is to build a cohesive community that ensures participants feel that their contributions matter. Read all about Wanees and his work in our blog post!

Thank you again for joining us in celebrating community artists! The pandemic hit the art and music industry very hard, yet artists like Wanees continued to compose and play music to bring us all light and joy during this dark time.

Sincerely,

Donna Farvard
Organizing Director, NIAC

P.S. You can watch Wanees and MEME’s performance at NIAC’s Norooz 1400 event here.
