Dear Friends,

Last week the Senate postponed final debate on its version of the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) until after Thanksgiving. The Senate version of the NDAA currently includes harmful language that would prohibit President Biden from bringing Guantanamo detainees to the U.S. for any reason - including for trial or for necessary medical treatment.

Please write to your Members of Congress now to close Guantanamo!

The prohibition on transfers would make it virtually impossible for President Biden to close Guantanamo, but thanks to your advocacy, the House has already passed a version of the NDAA that does not include it. Ultimately, the House and the Senate need to agree on a final version of the NDAA in early December, so it is essential that we convince the Senate to adopt the House version.

Write to your Members of Congress today and tell them to pass the House version of the NDAA that does not restrict detainees from being transferred out of Guantanamo.

Thank you,

Matt Hawthorne
Policy Director
