Friend,
Even before the pandemic, about half of Detroit households were food insecure—meaning, unable to reliably access affordable, nutritious food. Residents often have to travel far to even find fresh produce, because many neighborhoods in my majority-Black city are food deserts.
That’s why Peaches & Greens was founded: to make locally-grown fruits and vegetables accessible for more low-income Detroiters.
The organization gives away turkeys around Thanksgiving, and year-round they run a brick-and-mortar community produce market as well as a mobile food truck. People who receive food assistance get double the produce, which is crucial in a city where at least 40% of the population receives food assistance.
Peaches & Greens needs support expanding their delivery services to seniors in our community and beyond, so we’ve decided to MATCH every contribution to the organization, dollar-for-dollar, up to $7,000. That means, with your help, we can send a game-changing $14,000 to this local organization.
If you give right now to help Peaches & Greens deliver fresh food to low-income seniors, every dollar you contribute will be DOUBLED. Can you chip in today?
Here’s a pre-pandemic photo of one of the truck stops:
The organization’s mobile food truck goes to apartment buildings, senior centers, public health facilities, schools, and more—enabling people to shop for fresh, affordable produce right where they live.
What’s more, Peaches & Greens works with local farms to supply food to the community, helping empower neighbors (including young people) with the knowledge and opportunity to produce their own food.
All together, this creates a more resilient, community-owned local food system. In communities facing systemic inequities and ravaged by the COVID-19 pandemic, particularly Black communities, such food sovereignty is essential.
Will you be a part of it?
We’re going to match gifts up to $7,000, so your donation will have double the impact if you give right now. Please give as generously as you’re able, so hopefully we can send a game-changing $14,000 to Peaches & Greens.
