Hi Friend,
It’s scary to think that the fate of our democracy could be left to
chance. But in Shelly Simonds’s last run for the Virginia House of
Delegates in 2017, her race came down to a tiebreaker. Shelly and her GOP
opponent, the incumbent in House District 94, each received 11,608 votes.
An official drew a name at random to decide the election, and the GOP
candidate won.
A few more doors knocked or numbers dialed could have made the difference
in Shelly’s race. This year, Shelly is one of 20 Flippable candidates
running in highly competitive General Assembly districts. For these
Democrats, getting out the vote is no small feat: Virginia is the
country’s second-most difficult state to vote in. Their races will come
down to close margins on November 5th, and our candidates need your help
to make sure voters get to the polls.
