Good morning! More than ever, our republic needs real fighters and real leaders – citizens willing to stand up where they are and demand liberty. That is the focus of today's Texas Minute.
- Some groups and organizations like to show how cozy they are with the ruling elite by showering baubles and plaques on politicians. Frankly, we think that’s gross. Our founding fathers believed that the real leaders in this republic were not presidents, governors, or mayors – but the citizens.
- Since 2014, the Conservative Leader Award has been presented to the real leaders in Texas, those grassroots activists who engage themselves with their communities and in their professions for the high calling of effective citizenship.
- Nominations are taken throughout the summer from around Texas. The awardees are presented engraved cavalry swords as their individual stories are told by the people who nominated them. At the conclusion of today’s email, you’ll find the roll call of previous Conservative Leader Award recipients.
- For those reasons, and more, the Conservative Leader Awards dinner is easily the most encouraging, rewarding night of the year. Will you be there?
- The evening also includes highlighting the work of a single individual by presenting them with the Torch of Freedom. They are the fearless scouts, the advance guard in the fight for liberty, the torchbearers who lead and inspire others.
- The previous Torch of Freedom recipients have included:
Wallace Hall (2014)
Eric O'Keefe (2015)
Corley Rinaldi (2016)
Brent Southwell (2017)
JoAnn Fleming (2018)
Don Huffines (2019)
Shelley Luther (2020)
- None of the folks honored in the past, or being recognized this year, have sought the award. The one thing each recipient has in common with the others? They all politely try to decline, they offer the names of other people they deem more worthy.
- Because that’s the thing about real leaders and real fighters: they aren’t in it for glory, honor, or recognition. They do it because it is who they are, and who they know each of us is called to be in our own ways.
- The way they fight, they way they lead, is as different from each other as you can imagine… because it takes all of us – leading and fighting – to preserve our republic. It’s how our founding fathers designed it; the republic only functions as a xxxxxx of liberty, a city on a hill, when every citizen is actively engaged.
- Join me and freedom-loving patriots from around Texas as we celebrate self-governance by recognizing the work of our fellow citizens. You’ll get ideas on ways to serve and insights on leadership, as well as simply be encouraged in the fight for liberty in the Lone Star State..
- The dinner is Saturday, Dec. 4, in Irving. Ticket sales end this Wednesday – so get your tickets today!
- As an aside, the dinner is not a fundraiser: there will be no plea for donations, and no awkward passing of envelopes. We are still accepting sponsorships for the event itself – ranging from table sponsorships to helping underwrite the dinner.
“A leader is someone who helps improve the lives of other people or improve the system they live under.”
